Every food app tells you it's the best. We wanted to hear it from you instead, and we wanted someone hard to please to judge it.
Meet ChowBae. She lives in the Terrachow app, she has strong opinions about food, and she is not easily impressed. You get a few messages to convince her that Terrachow is worth it. Make her laugh, surprise her or show her you really know the app, and you could win food credit for your next order.
Why we built ChowBae
Most food apps only matter when you're hungry. You open them, order, wait and close them again. With ChowRush, the Garage and Chow Moments, we started making Terrachow worth opening between meals. ChowBae is the next step, and it's built on three ideas.
Rewards for creativity, not only spending. Points reward you for ordering, and ChowRush rewards you for playing. ChowBae rewards you for being clever. A student with a sharp line and a good sense of humour has as much chance of winning as someone who orders every day.
Getting to know Terrachow without reading a manual. Terrachow does a lot: batch delivery, ChowClub, Chow by Budget, gift cards, Chowcycle and more. Nobody reads a feature list. But when you're trying to win over ChowBae, you start thinking about what actually makes Terrachow useful to you, and you often find something new along the way.
Hearing it in your words. Every round tells us what you love about Terrachow and how you'd sell it to a friend. That's worth more to us than any ad we could write.
How it works
- Find ChowBae on your home screen in the Terrachow app. Look for the card that says Try your rizz.
- Read her opening line. She sets the scene for today's topic and waits, arms folded.
- Make your case. You get up to 6 messages per round. She replies to every one like a friend texting back, and her mood changes as you go, from unimpressed to warming up to impressed.
- Get your verdict. At the end of the round you get a score out of 100. Score high enough and you win food credit.
You get 3 rounds a day, and you can play as a guest. If a guest wins, signing in within 48 hours claims the prize.
A new topic every day
ChowBae doesn't want to hear the same pitch twice. Each day brings a new topic, the same for everyone, so what won yesterday won't work today. A few you might see:
- Sell ChowClub to a broke roommate
- Terrachow vs indomie
- Why not just WhatsApp the buka?
- Stuck in a long lecture
- Exam week survival
- Forgot a birthday
- Small money, big appetite
- Get the squad ordering
There are 14 of them, and they rotate. Stay on topic: a great message about the wrong thing won't impress her.
What makes ChowBae smile
Every message is scored on five things:
- Relevance: does it answer today's topic?
- Creativity: is it a fresh angle, a story or a scene she can picture?
- Originality: is it yours, or something everyone says?
- Humour: did she actually laugh?
- Knowing Terrachow: a real feature used well beats "it's fast and cheap" every time.
Your later messages count for more than your first ones, so a slow start won't sink a round that finishes strong. Repeating yourself, copying someone else's winning lines or trying to trick her into giving you a prize all score zero.
Prizes
The higher your score, the bigger the prize: ₦300, ₦500 or up to ₦1,000 in Terrachow food credit, paid from a daily prize pool.
- One prize a week. After a win you can keep playing for bragging rights, and you can win again after 7 days.
- Use it within 7 days. Your prize lands as food credit and is spent automatically at checkout. We'll send you a reminder before it expires. Food credit from points, ChowRush and refunds never expires; only ChowBae prizes do.
- When today's prizes are gone, they're gone. The app tells you when the day's pool has run out. You can still play for the score, and a new pool opens the next day.
Fair play
ChowBae chats, but she doesn't hand out prizes. Our servers score every message the same way for everyone, keep track of your rounds and decide the prize. Daily topics and the copy check mean the only way to win is to bring something of your own.
Tips from the team
- Read her opening line carefully. It tells you exactly what she wants to hear today.
- Be specific. "Batch delivery cut my delivery fee on Friday" beats "Terrachow is cheap".
- Paint a picture. She loves a story: the 8am lecture, the empty fridge, the surprise visit from your parents.
- Make her laugh. Humour counts, as long as it stays on topic.
- Finish strong. Your last messages count the most, so save your best line.
